The fourth Global Baku Forum

The world has just made two momentous collective decisions in 2015: at the UN the world’s leaders adopted the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and in Paris they adopted the first truly global agreement on climate change, committing themselves to keep global warming below 1.5 degrees Celsius. What does that portend for the energy policy of the 21st century? What will climate change bring in terms of uncertainty and change in the regions of the world?

But what about the socio-economic realities of our time? What do the problems that we are now facing tell us about the changing character of the world economy?  Will the changing demographic reality of the different regions of the world have socio-economic consequences on the aging nations with their declining populations in the face of still youthful nations who will continue to grow?

But today, we are all concerned with the insecurities of terrorism, the pressures of migration, the emergence of failed states, and the instability of the Middle East, and the rise of new actors on the world stage, who want to pursue their particular agendas in the face of rapidly changing circumstances. How will the changing world relations affect these realities?

Are we entering into an era of global politics where the dominance of the United States will be somewhat tempered and world affairs will increasingly be settled in a global system characterized by a new multipolar reality?

The fourth Global Baku Forum, to be held in Baku, Azerbaijan, from 10-11 March 2016 will gather a very large number of eminent and wise persons who have headed states and governments, and who should be able to shed light on these and many other issues that will be discussed in a rich program of panels and lectures, of formal sessions and informal meetings.

The organizer of this Forum, the Nizami Ganjavi International Center (NGIC), is delighted to welcome you to this event. Nizami, the National Poet of Azerbaijan, whose 875th anniversary will also be celebrated, was a man of great wisdom and enlightened ideas. His spirit will permeate our discussions.

Welcome to the land of Nizami. Welcome to Baku.
