Simon Wilson OBE
After graduating in Modern Languages from Cambridge University, Simon briefly worked for the Bank of London & South America. In 1988 he joined the British Diplomatic Service. He had postings in Greece, Croatia, USA, Hungary, Oman, Iraq and Kuwait. He left the Diplomatic Service in 2012 and now lives in the Sultanate of Oman where he works as an adviser on government relations for a number of companies specialising in the Gulf. He also acts as an adviser to a UAE university. As well as English, Simon speaks Russian, Hungarian, Serbian, French, Greek and Arabic. His interests include the history of Eastern Europe after the Second World War and the relationship of the Gulf monarchies with the Western world. In his spare time, Simon enjoys fine wine, fine food, travel and books about the history of words. Simon was appointed OBE in June 1997.
