Dr. Nina Markovic-Khaze holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), MAIR-MDip from The Australian National University, and a BA/Hons from The University of Western Australia, specializing in the analysis of domestic and foreign affairs, Australian military and diplomatic history, national security, and diverse areas of international relations. Her expertise encompasses Australia-European Union-United States relations, Australia-Asia engagements (including second-track diplomacy), as well as geopolitical dynamics in Eurasia and the Middle East. In addition to her academic accomplishments, Dr. Markovic-Khaze has built an impressive career in the private sector, where she co-founded Immunity Group Australia biotech company, worked as Director of Communications for Solve Law, served as a Human Rights Specialist at Home Migration Services, and held the role of foreign investment research analyst at Bemex, showcasing her ability to bridge scholarly insights with practical applications.
As an academic, Dr. Markovic-Khaze has lectured in International Relations, Diplomacy, and Security Studies at the University of New South Wales and Macquarie University, while also being a guest lecturer at LUISS University in Rome. Her reputation as an expert in the field is further reflected in her invitations to speak at over 100 academic conferences globally. Before transitioning into academia, Dr. Markovic-Khaze served as a Senior Parliamentary staff member specializing in European and Middle Eastern affairs, where she drafted speeches and provided strategic advice on foreign, defense, and security-related research. Her role extended to representing the Australian Federal Parliament in collaborations with international institutions, including the United States Congressional Research Service, United Nations Research Services, United Kingdom House of Commons Library, and New Zealand’s Parliamentary Library. Additionally, she contributed to public service through contract roles with the Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing and the Australian Bureau of Statistics.
Dr. Markovic-Khaze is deeply engaged in professional associations, serving as an Executive Board Member of the European Studies Association Australia and New Zealand (ESAANZ), President of the Australasian Association for Communist and Post-Communist Studies (AACaPS), and Vice-President of the Australian Institute of International Affairs (AIIA, ACT Branch). She is fluent in English, Serbian, and Italian, and has working knowledge of German. Her international outlook is complemented by her participation in ERASMUS Mundus research exchanges in Germany and Italy. Her published works include co-editing the critically acclaimed “Muslim Citizens in the West” with Professor Samina Yasmeen AM, authoring two Serbian-language books, and contributing more than 100 peer-reviewed articles in prominent journals.
